A sickly little girl
Aromahead graduate Andrea Bailey-Tweed described herself as a “sickly” little girl.
But her mother and grandmother were always there for her, making natural blends with herbs and oils that helped her feel better.
As Andrea grew up, she continued to believe in and use holistic care, but she never had time to focus on it. She was busy building a career, family, and lifestyle that she LOVED! She was deeply happy with her life.
Until the unthinkable happened.
Andrea got sick. Very sick.
A downward spiral
When she writes about her sickness (on her website), Andrea doesn’t go into much detail. (I can imagine why… it would be difficult to relive that!)
She simply describes it as a
“downward spiral that I thought would never end.”
Andrea saw countless doctors and medical professionals, who all told her that she would never get any better. They said she just had to learn to live with her condition.
Then began the many rounds of surgeries and dozens of prescribed medications—“none of which worked,” Andrea says. “And I soon began having serious side effects from the medications.”
Eventually, Andrea wound up in a wheelchair.
She believed she would never walk again, and her love for her family was the only thing that kept her holding on.
To top it all off, all of these treatments were devastating to Andrea’s family’s finances.
The power of the flower!
At her wits end, Andrea prayed for help.
The answer came to her in a dream.
In the dream, Andrea’s deceased grandmother reminded her of the power of plants. (Andrea calls it “the power of the flower!”)
She says, “I had been taught how to use oils and completely overlooked it! The very next day, I began my official education into the world of essential oils, spending hundreds of hours in formal study and training.”
Her passion for learning and supporting her own recovery led her to Aromahead Institute, and the Aromatherapy Certification Program (the ACP). (See her Aromahead graduate profile here!)
Aromatherapy certification: mastering a (not so) tough subject
At first, Andrea was a little intimidated by how in-depth the chemistry portions of the class seemed.
Chemistry was one of her toughest subjects in school.
“When I found out there was a chemistry section in the ACP, I literally panicked… Then came Andrea Butje [the lead instructor in the ACP]. I could actually understand her. I could follow this. I was sooo proud that I got through this and couldn’t believe it. Andrea Butje made it simple. Really, she did.”
With what she was learning about essential oils, she says:
“I began to do and accomplish things
I never thought I would do again.”
Soon, she was combining essential oils with therapeutic massage and chiropractic work.
Her husband and sons were amazed at what she was learning and how it was helping her.
In time, she even got up out of her wheelchair.
A health victory and a new path
Andrea says,“Today, I stand here. Yes, I STAND here!
“I’m walking on my own and doing more than I have been able to do in years. I’m leading the life I knew still existed for me.”
Now she uses her education in essential oils and natural therapies to run her own business—Earth’s Own Essentials—so she can help others.
She doesn’t promise that everyone’s results will be as powerful as hers.
“But,” she says, “with the rising costs of healthcare and prescriptions, it is more important than ever to be proactive about taking care of your own body.
“Don’t get me wrong, I still believe that
medical care is important, but determination is key.
Sometimes you have to go beyond the norm to succeed.”
A deeply moving, inspiring story
Teaching others about essential oils is its own reward, but hearing about Andrea’s journey simply takes my breath away.
It’s such a privilege to help people transform their lives with the power of essential oils, and to watch them go on to help others.
