It’s a must-have after a long hike, if you’ve been standing at work for hours, or if your sandals start to feel too tight on a hot summer day.
This foot bath blend includes a gorgeous essential oil from Australia that many people are unfamiliar with.
It’s called Kunzea (Kunzea ambigua).
Kunzea is steam distilled from the leaves of a shrub that creates beautiful, delicate white blossoms. Its fresh, penetrating scent may remind you of Eucalyptus, with hints of sweetness and spice.
Kunzea is one of my favorite essential oils to include in a foot bath, because it’s both emotionally refreshing and physically soothing. It’s ideal for muscle and joint care, and for cooling areas that feel puffy and tender.
Another benefit that Kunzea offers is support during cold season. Like Eucalyptus, Kunzea can help open the breath and safeguard health.
In this essential oil foot bath recipe, I’m blending Kunzea (and two other essential oils) into a base of pink Himalayan salt and jojoba oil. You’ll need a 2 oz glass jar or a small bowl. This recipe makes enough to soak your feet one time, so you won’t have any left to store. (Unless you want to make extra for a second session!)
Here’s the full foot bath recipe:
Kunzea Healing Foot Bath
- 1 oz (28 g) Pink Himalayan salt (small grain)
- ½ oz (15 ml) Jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis)
- 2 drops Kunzea essential oil (Kunzea ambigua)
- 2 drops Sandalwood essential oil (Santalum album)
- 2 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil (Cananga odorata)
- Put the salt into your glass jar or small bowl. I’ve suggested small grain salt, but any size you like will work!)
- Add the jojoba.
- Drop in the essential oils and stir gently, using a glass stirring rod or a stainless steel spoon.
To prepare your foot bath, get a medium to large tub or bowl. (I use a pretty heirloom that’s been in my family for decades. It makes the experience feel a touch more special.)
Fill the bowl about half way with very warm water. Add your Kunzea Healing Foot Bath blend.
Set the bowl in front of a chair, sit and soak your feet!

Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang Essential Oils
Along with Kunzea, this foot bath blend includes Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang essential oils.
They complement Kunzea’s relieving effects, while adding a profoundly relaxing element that can help you rest after a busy or challenging day.
Sandalwood essential oil (Santalum album)Sandalwood essential oil is famous for its calming influence on the mind, heart, and body.
It’s also soothing for the skin, and is a great addition to recipes that help reduce microbes and protect health. Along with this foot bath blend, Sandalwood essential oil is right at home in foot lotions for when your toes feel itchy!
It’s a thick essential oil, so it may take a few minutes to drop out of the bottle.
Ylang Ylang essential oil (Cananga odorata)
The intoxicating, honey-like, heavy floral aroma of Ylang Ylang essential oil is like an aromatic lullaby.
Ylang Ylang is a sensual, heart-opening oil, allowing you to release blockages so you can access deep wells of peace and forgiveness. Ylang Ylang also encourages the release of pent-up, stressful emotions, so the sense of relaxation can penetrate your entire system.
Due to its strong, hypnotic aroma, just 1 or 2 drops of Ylang Ylang are usually all that’s needed. (More can be overwhelming.)

How often can you use this foot bath recipe?
During busy times, I like to use this Kunzea Healing Foot Bath 2–3 times a week.
If you’re not going to use all of your blend right away (or you want to make more so you can do a second session!), store your blend in a glass or PET plastic jar (which doesn’t leach).
